CEIP Pablo Neruda

We are a team of teachers that work at CEIP Pablo Neruda, located in Coslada (Madrid).

Coslada is a municipality close to Madrid Barajas Airport, at a distance of approximately 15 km. away from Madrid downtown, being covered under the umbrella of the public transportation system from Madrid, including buses and subway.

As one of the network of public school centres under the regional Comunidad de Madrid government, the centre is intended to teach children in groups from the age of 3 to 12 years old. It has got 40 years of background, and fortunately it has been challenged by a continuous growing demand.

On top of that, the methodology is based on a playing/experiencing way to adapt pupils to new subjects and methods along their career in the school, helping them to be ready to move to High Schools for the secondary level.

The centre is part of the community and participates actively with initiatives and contests carried out by the City Hall being awarded seven times in the last eight years.

The C.E.I.P. Pablo Neruda is managed and driven by a creative team of professionals with large experience and background that enjoy their job and do perceive the need of a continuous training activity to improve.

The motivation to know and practice new methodologies is supported by previous experiences of team members at schools in Shrewsbury (United Kingdom) and Philadelphia (United States).

We are very excited to have the opportunity to participate in the Erasmus+ project "High Five for nature", as it is a chance to grow professionally by learning from our partners. Moreover, students will be able to see the usefulness of learning English at the same time that the internalize strategies to take care of the environment.

We are on the idea that our participation, including pupils, will bring to them significance into their learning experience.

CARBON FOOTPRINT, ART WORKSHOP

Students from Pablo Neruda School have designed the carbon footprint they want to leave on the planet. Their goal is to leave the smallest footprint possible by planting trees, saving water, conserving energy, using public transportation instead of private cars, and more.

The school has become very colorful with these designs, which serve as a daily reminder of the effort each of us must make to take care of our planet.

AND THE WINNER LOGO IS...

It has been really difficult to decide which logo is the winner, as the quality of all the works is very high. However, after an initial tie between the Turkish and Spanish logos, the Turkish logo won.

HOW BIG IS YOUR ENVIRONMENTAL FOOTPRINT?

Students have checked how large their carbon footprint on the planet is by using an online platform called the WWF Footprint Calculator.

It has been amazing to realize how we are harming our planet day by day without even noticing it. But the first step toward change is becoming aware of it. That’s why we invite you to visit the following website:

https://footprint.wwf.org.uk/

Below are some photos showing the results obtained by our students.
